Biography

      Antoni Pitxot was born in Figueres Cataluña in 1934. He is a Spanish and Catalan painter who was a long time friend of Salvador Dalí. Pitxot fist showed in interest in art at the age of thirteen when he started studying drawing. In his twenties and thirties he had many exhibits in Lisbon, Bilbao, Barcelona and Madrid. He won many prizes . In 1965 he won the Gold Medal painting prize in Barcelona's “La Punyalada competition.”

     In 1966 Pitxot started to experiment with surrealism and specifically with anthropomorphic figures made of Stone that lined the beach where he lived. Pitxot would often build sculptures from the rocks and then paint the sculptures in oil.

    Themes of Pitxots’ work include myth and allegory. Pitxot helped Dalí in forming the Dalí Theater-Museum. After Dalí’s death Pitxot became the director of the museum.

     Even though he Is known as being a long-time friend of Salvador Dali, there is no doubt that Pitxot is a great artist in his own right. His work can be found in private collections and museums all over the world.
